Pineapple Super Green Smoothie: A Tasty Way To Get Regular

While there’s a lot of controversy about eating fats and carbs for weight loss, almost agrees that eating more protein is one of the best diet decisions you can make. After all, protein helps build muscle mass and decrease your appetite. It also helps you feel fuller, longer.

However, if you’ve found that upping your protein intake causes you trouble in the bathroom, you’re not alone. Too much protein can cause constipation, abdominal pain, and other digestive issues.

And protein isn’t the only bad guy affecting your gut. Those popular GLP-1 meds may shut down ‘food noise’ so you eat less … but also cause constipation, nausea, and fatigue. [By the way…new ZenGLP-1 stimulates GLP-1 production and reduces cravings without the expensive meds and gut issues!]

Luckily—there’s an easy fix for getting your gut back on track: Pineapple and Super Green Smoothie!

This smoothie delivers everything a troubled gut needs to get back on track. It contains banana, pineapple, and spinach, which deliver a wealth of fiber and vitamins for overall good health. Greek yogurt adds gut-friendly probiotics, while chia seeds deliver omega-3 fats and even more fiber. Even better, comes together in less than 10 minutes and gives you a healthy, nutritious jump to your day.

Why we love these ingredients

We love Pineapple not only for its tropical vibe. It also contains high levels of bromelain, a digestive enzyme that helps break down proteins and improve nutrient absorption.  Bromelain also reduces inflammation, helps wounds heal faster and relieves nasal swelling.

Almond milk is a great non-dairy replacement for those who can't drink or don't like cow's milk. It’s low in calories and carbs, naturally lactose-free and good sources of Vitamin E and calcium.

Chia seeds are tiny nutrient-dense powerhouses! Their high fiber content boosts nutrient absorption, alleviates constipation, and promotes the growth of good gut bacteria.  bacteria in your gut. They’re also a plant-based source of omega-3s, which have been shown to reduce disease-causing inflammation.

Spinach is  packed with such essential nutrients as bone-building calcium, manganese, and vitamin K, while plant-based Vitamins A, C, E deliver antioxidants and immune support. It also contains fiber and electrolytes to promote regularity and enzyme production.

Pro tips for easy prep

While you can use fresh fruit, frozen fruit works so much better for smoothies [and makes prep much easier too!]  Pick up frozen bananas, strawberries, or other fruit at the supermarket. Bagged baby spinach or kale is a smoothie BFF as well.

This smoothie relies primarily on the sweetness of the fruit to flavor it. We recommend tasting the smoothie first before adding any additional sweetener.

5 tips for the perfect smoothie

The secret to a thick, creamy smoothie is adding the ingredients in a specific order before blending.

  1. First, add the liquid to the blender—in this recipe, almond milk, and yogurt. Feel free to play around with the amounts; more liquid makes a thinner smoothie, while less liquid creates a thicker, shake-like consistency.
  2. Add the base. The “base” is the body of your smoothie. Bananas give smoothies creaminess and a hint of sweetness. Mangoes, peaches, and apples work well too.
  3. Next, add in veggies and other ingredients. Roughly chop any greens into smaller pieces before adding into the blender. Then drop in any other fruits and a scoop of your favorite protein powder, if using.
  4. Flavor it up. Now you can take your smoothie to the next level with any additional flavorings like vanilla extract, cinnamon, or other spices. Top it off with a small dash of salt to add minerals and extract more flavor. Blend, and add sweeteners if desired [such as honey, stevia, or maple syrup].
  5. Blend it up! Mix in your blender at medium speed for 30 to 45 seconds until everything is combined. Enjoy.
