5 Easy Back-to-School Self-Care Hacks

News Flash: Those lazy days of summer are gone. That’s right, parents, school is back in session, which means busy schedules and adjusting to a new routine. You are rushing to get school supplies, coordinating carpools, and packing lunches, all while possibly putting in an 8-hour day at the office.

Overwhelmed yet? You bet!

There’s an adjustment period for any significant schedule change. Prime example: Going back to school. To manage this added stress, staying on top of your self-care is more important than ever.

We are begging you to PLEASE include self-care in your new schedule. And as we said in our What People Get Wrong About Self-Care blog, it’s so much more than a bubble bath and a glass of wine. (But, hey, nothing wrong with that!)

We’ve gathered five easy-to-implement self-care hacks for your summer-to-fall transition.

  1. Make Time for a New Exercise Routine
Do you have some extra time now that the kids are back in school? This is the perfect time to rededicate yourself to health and fitness. Daily exercise offers longevity, bone health, and mental health benefits, to name just a few. Read more about the 7 Surprising Benefits of Exercise here.
  2. Add Some Meditation or Breathwork to Your Day
Much research suggests that breathing exercises and meditation can go a long way in coping with chronic stress. According to Dr. Emeran Mayer: “Breathing and meditation are really the simplest things you can do for your health, both mental and physical. Consistently carving out a few minutes daily to sit quietly and breathe intentionally can lead to lasting health benefits. Learn some easy breathing exercises in our blog Why Meditation and Breathwork?

  3. Start Your Day With Some Journaling
The simple practice of putting pen to paper is more than a passing self-care trend. Scientific studies suggest it reduces depression and anxiety symptoms, boosts immunity, improves memory, and more. Head to our blog on What You Need To Know About Journaling for four different types of journaling that are perfect for beginners.

  4. Give Your Supplement A Fall Refresh
Your supplement needs can vary from season to season. Establishing a supplement routine is not always a slam dunk. It takes research, follow-through, time, and consistency. Speaking of time, are you short on it? Take a look at our blog, where we share four steps to help you ace your supplement regime and get the results you want.

  5. Sip on Bone Broth Throughout Your Day
Food trends come and go (remember fondue?), but the bone broth boom is here to stay for various gut-nourishing reasons. It’s packed with nutrients like collagen and L-glutamine. It’s also a great source of protein and fat-soluble vitamins A, D, and K. Studies show it can help ease inflammation and support new cartilage growth in joints. And the good news is that you can make it at home. Carley Smith, AKA The Fairy Gut Mother, covers all the basics in the Beginners Guide to Making Bone Broth.

Self-care is essential but building it into our routines can be tough. We feel you! That’s why we created our self-care e-book, which includes habit-tracking sheets and bonus planning tools. Enter your email address below for a free download.
