Gut Loving Golden Milk Latte

Creamy turmeric latte, also known as golden milk or turmeric milk, is a bit like Indian eggnog. Made with hints of warming spices, you'll love this simple, sweet-and-savory recipe that you can easily whip together with a handful of ingredients

What is Golden Milk?

Golden Milk comes from the Hindi term "haldi ka doodh" ("haldi means turmeric and "doodh" means milk). Also known as turmeric milk, it contains hints of vanilla, ginger, cinnamon. Plus it’s super healthy because the same ingredient that gives this “sunshine in a mug its bright, golden color delivers some remarkable health benefits!

Why we love these ingredients

Turmeric is a bright yellow spice that’s popular in Indian cuisine. It’s also home to a health-boosting compound called curcumin. Not only is curcumin a potent antioxidant, research shows it also helps reduce inflammation, supports your blood sugar, protects your memory and improves your mood.

Ginger is among the healthiest (and most delicious) spices on the planet. It’s prized medicinal benefits are most likely due to a compound called gingerol, an antioxidant and natural anti-inflammatory. Ginger is also digestive booster that helps relieve nausea indigestion.

Like Ginger, Cinnamon is also a potent antioxidant with anti-viral, anti-bacterial and

anti-inflammatory benefits. It also acts as a prebiotic ‘food’ for the good bacteria in your gut.

Pro tips to get you started

What we love about Golden Milk Latte is that you can use any type of milk: coconut, almond, oat, soy or even regular whole milk. You may want to use a flavored milk such as vanilla almond to give it even more flavor.

This recipe calls for ¼ tsp of ground turmeric, which is easily found in your supermarket. However, remember that a little bit goes a long way! And yes, we do suggest adding a pinch of black pepper.  It’s not for flavor; it’s to help your body absorb more of the turmeric goodness.

While you can drink this fresh out of the saucepan, it’s even better when frothy.  You can use a use a milk frother or small immersion blender right in the saucepan. Or pour the mixture into a blender and blend until its foamy. Note that turmeric will stain your blender, so immediately rinse it with soap and warm water.
